I would like to officially welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year! The junior high years are a special time in your child's life and we pride ourselves in making this journey a successful one for your child. They will learn and grow in ways you never imagined as a parent and when they leave us they will be well prepared for high school and beyond. To get you, as a parent, started on this same journey, there are many things you need to know and do so please read the following information carefully.
InfoSnap
We are going completely on line this year using InfoSnap to fill out all the back to school forms for the district as well as the individual school sites prior to the start of school. An email will be sent out to you soon generated from InfoSnap using the return address registrar@lasdk8.org. This email will contain a code and login information so you can get started on the forms. Please follow the directions carefully as you create an account for your child. Junior high students will not be allowed to pick up their schedules on August 12 if their InfoSnap registration is not completed. We have also placed a link to InfoSnap on the Blach website, http://www.blachschool.org.
Back To School Form
InfoSnap should contain a link to Blach's individual back to school forms but if you are having trouble finding it, here is the link and password to the forms:

We will be holding a Welcome Back Orientation event on Friday, August 12 for our students. We invite our in-coming 7th graders to come from 10:00 - 12:00 PM and our returning 8th graders to come from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. The activities at this event include receiving schedules, touring the campus, purchasing PE uniforms (please bring $20.00 to get your uniform), spirit wear and new this year, taking your yearbook picture in the multi. Parents, we will have computers available in the library to fill out your InfoSnap and Blach back to school forms if you haven't already done so prior to this event. If you cannot attend the orientation, you can have a friend pick up your schedule and purchase your PE uniform ($20.00) or stop by the office on Monday the 15th or 16th to get your schedules. If you cannot purchase your PE uniforms on August 12, you will purchase them on the first day of school from the PE department. (Remember, PE uniforms are $20.00.) Picture make up day is scheduled for September 21.
Back to School CoffeeThe PTA and I will hold a welcome Back to School Coffee on Thursday, August 18, 9:00 AM in front of the school. We welcome new and returning parents to this event. It will be a chance to meet me, our counselor, Dr. Judy Rothenberg, and our PTA co-presidents, Elizabeth Maciag and Cheryl Bystrom. We hope to have a large turn out for this great beginning of school event.
Back to School NightBlach's Back to School Night is Wednesday, August 24, 6:45 - 9:00 PM. The event starts in the multi at 6:45 PM. We will have a short meeting introducing our PTA board, LAEF representatives and school administration. When the bell rings at 7:00 PM, you are off to visit your child's teachers for the rest of the evening. Please make sure to make this important event on your calendars. Due to having Back to School Night during the week of August 22 - 26, there will be a minimum day on Friday, August 26. Students will get out of school at 12:22 PM on that day.
New Teachers at Blach
Mr. Brandon Marquis
Brandon joins the Blach staff as a new special education teacher. Brandon has worked as a special education aide at our school for the past couple of years. He recently completed his coursework and requirements to earn a teaching credential and we so excited to keep him on our faculty now as a fulltime teacher.
Ms. Meghan Greenbaum
Meghan has been hired to teach four sections of 7th grade science and 1 section of the Eco Action elective. Meghan is a graduate of Cal Poly, SLO (Go Mustangs!). She has a very strong background in biological science and recently completed her student teaching requirements. Meghan's new classroom will be C3. She is going to make a wonderful addition to our staff and she is thrilled to be teaching at our school.
Mr. Ricky Hu
Ricky has been hired to teach 8th grade science. Ricky is a graduate of UC San Diego where he majored in Physics. Last year he completed his student teaching assignment at the Pruess School which is a very prestigious charter school located on the UC San Diego campus. He spent an entire year interning as a science teacher on that campus. His new classroom will be C1. He is very excited about teaching at Blach and he is literally moving up the bay area as I write this email.
Mrs. Noirin Foy
Noirin has been hired to teach three sections of Algebra 8. Noirin worked in industry for a number of years. She took time off to raise a family and through her volunteer work in the classrooms, she found teaching to be her next calling. Noirin has also just completed her student teaching requirements at Los Altos High School as well as at Irvington High School in Fremont. She has two children who attend Loyola and she is beyond thrilled to start her teaching career here at Blach.
On behalf of the Blach Staff, we look forward to the start of school on Wednesday, August 17. Remember, Wednesday is a late start day so school doesn't start until 9:00 AM. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the office, (650) 934-3800. We are happy to help you in any way possible.
Warm Regards,
Leslie Crane
